"The diverse work of Evgeny Kiselev oscillates between the rigors of symmetry and prolific excess. Several compositions begin with vivid tiled patterns that are mirrored again and again until they can no longer be contained and are forced to push beyond the confines of their logic. Others emerge from a single outline that manifests the controlled lawlessness of the work. Each piece achieves a complexity of color and layer that continues to build infinitely into the space of the page creating a warping spatial depth"

The Concept

Mátika is an alternative cultural magazine that defines itself as a product of the new media arts movement. The magazine is a result of the emerging tendency of including new technology in our everyday life. Mátika’s unique format emulates the interactivity obtained on the web. It is a tangible experimental and interactive magazine in which the unfolding of each square acts like a hyperlink that will take you to the next revelation of a site or in this case the magazine. Each published square has its web counterpart where you will find the complete version of the article on the Matika website. Moreover, Mátika’s editorial art re–invents and brings together past artistic tendencies.

The cover and poster represent in full the artistic design of every edition; featured by special collaborations of designers from all over the world.

In an era in which science and art are intersecting again, Mátika is the platform in which they come together forming a meeting ground for both practice and expression. It is a publication that experiments in new ways to include new technology into our creative processes. Mátika believes that the use of new technology in art is a way to surpass the limitations of time and space and as a result of this new possibility uncover new facets in the arts that will carry us to profound transcendental insights.
